Who we are
The charity is governed by a board of six trustees supported by a Chief Executive, ten full-time and two part-time members of staff.
In addition, we are very lucky to have a number of patrons backing our cause, several of whom have had personal experience of meningitis.
We would also not be here today, were it not for the dedication of our volunteers, who provide valuable support in our office, and our friends and supporters throughout the country who continue to be the driving force behind the charity. You can read some of their stories on our personal stories page.
Our Scientific Medical Advisory Panel, made up of top scientists within the field of meningitis across the UK, provide valuable advice to ensure that we support only the most worthy research.
Meningitis UK is also a member of the following organisations:
- Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC)
The leading umbrella organisation representing medical research charities. - Confederation of Meningitis Organisations (COMO)
A global organisation consisting of over 20 member organisations, which provides an excellent opportunity to learn and share best practice about the prevention and awareness of meningitis. - Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB)
This means we are committed to the highest standards of practice when raising funds, ensuring that our activities are open and fair, honest and legal. - Pneumococcal Awareness Council of Experts (PACE)
A group of the world's leading experts on infectious diseases and vaccines, set up to raise awareness about pneumococcal disease and to advocate for its prevention through vaccination.
We have developed a working relationship with the Meningitis Trust, which focuses on aftercare and treatment, to help us further highlight our mission to support research to eradicate meningitis altogether.
