Organise your own event

Organise your own fundrasing eventIt could be you! Why not organise your own event? The possibilities are endless for organising your own event and raising money for Meningitis UK. Take inspiration from some of our current supporters, who are enthusiastically working year-round to raise money for our Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign. Our supporters have planned exciting events such as a fashion, music and dance show, a wedding dress ball, a sponsored walk, a play about meningitis and a football match. Take a look at our supporter showcase for inspiration!

We have produced especially for you a fun yet comprehensive guide to organising your own event booklet (pdf, opens in a new window). This booklet will give you plenty of advice on suggested events, how to plan everything, how to get media coverage, and how to keep your event safe and legal.

Alternatively, please call Laura, our Supporter Relations Fundraiser, on 0117 302 6192, and she'll be more than happy to chat to you about possibilities. You can also email her on laurabullock@meningitisuk.org, plus you might also want to check out our fundraising resources page.

Events throughout the year

You can organise your event at any time throughout the year, but of course there are some things you should bear in mind. Pre-Christmas can be a good time to get people to donate to charity, as there is a general feeling of goodwill and willingness to give and partake.

However, it is not the best time of year to organise an outdoor activity given the likely weather conditions, so consider things like a coffee morning, indoor cake sale or a dinner dance at this point. Events such as a fete, fun day or football match can attract a lot of people in the summer months, and special occasions like Easter and Halloween can be a good springboard for a themed fundraising event.

Before you choose the date for your event, check that it doesn't clash with another major event that could keep people away from yours. On the other hand, holding a Ladies' Pamper Day at the same time as the FA Cup Final could be a roaring success! Laura, our Supporter  Relations Fundraiser, will be happy to chat to you and advise you on any queries you may have about your event. Give her a call on 0117 302 61 92, or email laurabullock@meningitisuk.org.
