Celebrity party!

Josie Gibson, winner of Big Brother 2010, is holding a charity night on the 3rd March, in Bristol, to raise money for Meningitis UK. Josie's brother Harry suffered from meningitis when he was three years old and she wants to support the charity so we can put a stop to this terrible disease. Josie's 'Muckers Party' will include a raffle, auction, disco and buffet and tickets can be brought by following this link http://josiegibsonclub.webs.com/muckersparty.htm. You had better hurry up though, tickets are selling fast!

 

Taylor Run 2012

After a successful 2 years of The Taylor Run, get ready for The Taylor Run 2012!! On September 1st 2012 , for one week, teams will take part in a drive around the UK, completing tasks along the way, all to raise money for Meningitis UK. They will be camping in Newquay, visiting Snowdon and partying in Liverpool. For more information and to enter a team please visit  http://www.taylor-run.com/.

 

Recent event success

 

Summer Stroll 2011Thanks to all those who took part in our Summer Stroll this year. More than 190 of you donned your walking boots for the 13-mile walk between Keynsham and Bristol and experienced the extremes of pouring rain in the morning and glorious sunshine in the afternoon. You all helped raise an impressive £16,000! This included £1,226 from pharmaceutical company Novartis and over £4,400 raised by Meningitis UK trustee Stephen Gazard and his family.

 

The Big Trek teamMany of you have taken on extreme challenges for Meningitis UK this summer, including 13 intrepid trekkers who took on our first bespoke Three Peaks Challenge and succeeded in conquering the tree highest mountains in the UK raising an estimated £7,000. Lizzie Blowey took part in a three legged race up Snowdon raising £222, while the Hession family and friends raised over £5,000 in memory of Andrew Hession by taking to the skies with a skydive!

 

The Epernay to Epernay cycle teamThe team at Epernay Champagne and Wine Bar in Leeds raised an impressive £2,125 by cycling from Epernay in Leeds to Epernay in the Champagne region of France. Thank you!

 

 

 

Mark Burrell's Golf DayWe've had plenty of golfing events this year, helping us go a fairway to raising vtal funds. Mendip Golf Club chose us as their charity of the year and recently held a golf day which was attended by our chief executive Steve. Mark Burrell also held a golf day in Somerset in May raising £5,250 in memory of his daughter Ruby who sadly died from meningitis last year.

 

Helen HancornA big thank you to all the runners who have supported us this year. Thanks to Helen Hancorn who raised over £900 by taking part in the Brighton Marathon, and to Surj Stott and friends who ran the Lincoln 10K and raised £2,423 in memory of Dylan. Thanks also to all those who ran fpr us in the Bristol Half Marathon and the Great North Run. We really appreciate your support!

 

Farmer's Arms football matchDave Thompson at the Farmer's Arms in Wallasey, Merseyside organises an annual football match in memory of Daniel Tierney.  Over the last three years this has raised an impressive £4,294 - well done!

 

 

Oxford Road Baptist Church toddlersSchools and nurseries across the country have been taking part in our Big Bug Hunt this year including Oxford Road Baptist Church Toddlers in Hartlepool. They raised £571 from their Big Bug Hunt and will be getting match funding for it.

 

 

Mark Tanton Children's TriathlonJohn and Lesley Tanton organised the Mark Tanton Children's Triathlon in memory of their son Mark. The event was open to children aged 8 to 16 and was extremely popular with 140 children taking part. Over £5,000 has been raised so far.

 

 

Rounders has proved popular this year with many of you holding rounders tournaments. Ron and Lyn South and Jacqui and Patrick Doyle held a rounders day with auction and raffle in memory of Louis and Libby Doyle. No rounders was played due to pouring rain, but they still raised an amazing £6,000! Corrinne Regan and Lisa Higgins also held a rounders tournament in Berkeley, Gloucestershire raising an impressive £3,387 in memory of Sam Virgo. Players were treated to a well-deserved hog roast and live music from band Broken Stones.

Sue Barton Dance SchoolThe Sue Barton Dance School chose us as their charity of the year and they have been holding cake sales, sponsored walks, sunflower competitions and finished with a grand finale in the form of a dance show. So far they've raised an impressive £3,005 with money still coming in!

 

 

Helen's Walk 2011Terry and Sue Laing held their final sponsored walk in memory of their daughter Helen this year. Helens Walk, which passes through the beautiful village of Osmotherley, Yorkshire, has been held every year since 2001 and has raised over £87,000 in Helen's memory. We are hugely grateful for their commitment. This is a lasting legacy towards our research in Helen's name.

 

Macclesfield and District Lions ClubMacclesfield and District Lions Club presented Meningitis UK with a cheque for £1,500 from their annual golf tournament this year. Thank you!

 

 

 

Marion and Jim's coffee morningMarion Smith and Jim Porthouse have held a coffee morning every year since 2002. This year, our chief executive Steve and golfer Scott Drummond came along and the event raised £1,505!

 

 

 

Thank you also to...

Glen De La Cruz and family who raised £5,637, by holding Little Big Hero, a fundraising night in memory of Joel Selwyn Ruck. The event featured some special performances including an appearance by top UK beatboxer, MC Zani.

Becky Mitchell for bravely completing a sponsored head shave! Becky also held a street collection and raised a total of £240 in memory of Calumn Small.

Everyone at construction company Yorkon in Huntington, who took part in a Dragon Boat Race dressed as Noah’s Rowers, raising over £5,000.

Bob and Barbara Birdsall who raised an impressive £1,710 in memory of their daughter Rossyln by hosting a charity fundraising night and auction.

Alan Glynn who has raised over £2,000 so far in memory of his daughter Alexis Rose. Alan has held a variety of different events including a Ladies Night, Race Night and a Fun Day.
