Question:

My baby has just completed his baby injections. Can he still have the new vaccine available in the spring.

Answer:

Professor Andrew Pollard says:

The new vaccine is a replacement for the pneumococcal vaccine that is already given with the baby vaccines to prevent one of the types of meningitis and pneumonia. The current vaccine protects against 7 types of the germ and the new one will protect against an extra 6 types (13 in total). If your baby has already had all of the baby vaccines ( I assume from the question that he is now 4 months of age), he will get the new vaccine when he is 13 months of age as part of the routine vaccine schedule.
