Step out this summer for Meningitis UK
ONE of the South West's biggest charity fundraisers has been launched, urging people from across Bristol and Bath to put their best foot forward and help raise vital funds for Meningitis UK.
The Summer Stroll, which covers 14 miles between the cities, takes place on Saturday, June 20, and people can now sign up for this ever-popular event.
The walk was officially launched at Cabot Circus in Bristol on Monday by Chris Davies, the Lord Mayor of Bristol.
About 200 people are expected to take part in the walk and all money raised on the day will go towards Meningitis UK's Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign.
Organiser Paul Hobbs, a well-known Bristol charity supporter who will also be at the launch, said said: "This year's Summer Stroll promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
"Last year was such a great day, with hundreds of people helping to raise £24,000 which is quite remarkable. Everyone's welcome to sign-up for what should be another fantastic occasion."
The 14-mile stroll starts at Bath City Football Club's Twerton Park Stadium at 9am, followed by a stop at the Crown in Saltford, then heading to the Paintworks for lunch, down to the Welshback before ending with a well-deserved meal at Bristol City's Ashton Gate Stadium at about 4pm.
All proceeds will go towards Meningitis UK's Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign, which aims to raise £7million to fund vital research into eradicating Meningitis B - the most common form of meningitis in the UK. This accounts for almost 90 per cent of all cases and there is still no vaccine.
Wendy Lewis, Meningitis UK's Supporter Relations Officer, said "Last year was a massive success and we hope everyone will get behind us on Saturday, June 20 for another great day.
"To date, the three Summer Stroll events have raised over £50,000 which is phenomenal. Every penny raised is so important in enabling us to continue our vital work and will take us one step closer to finding a vaccine and saving lives."
Gadd Homes are the main sponsor, with DAS and Mercedes Benz of Bath and Bristol the associate sponsors. The event is also supported by Greenpark Publishing.
