A TEENAGER from Sittingbourne has paid an emotional tribute to her mother who was cruelly snatched by the brain bug meningitis three years ago.
Jordan Williams was only 10 years old when she had to say goodbye to her mother.
After giving birth to her son, Tammy Harris, 30, is believed to have contracted Group B streptococcus – a type of meningitis which can be contracted during childbirth.
Since her mother's death, Jordan has felt compelled to hold an event in her memory.
Last weekend (Sunday August 7) more than 50 people – friends and family of Jordan – were invited by her to gather at King Georges Park in Sittingbourne.
The group released yellow heart balloons with messages to Tammy and played games like an egg and spoon race and tug of war.
Jordan was helped to organise the event by her Dad Daryl, Step-Mum Becks and Nan Gloria Williams.
Mrs Williams said: "It was a very emotional day for Jordan. She was only 10 when her mum died, but she knew that she wanted to do something special to remember her.
"We were pleased with the number of people who came along to support us and people were very generous and we have raised £400.
"Tammy was a very bubbly and outgoing person. She was full of life and she adored her children."
Meningitis UK's chief executive Steve Dayman lost his son Spencer to the disease in 1982.
He said: "Jordan did a fantastic job to organise this day in memory of her mum Tammy who was so tragically struck down by meningitis. It sounded like it was a very successful day and we are so grateful of the support.
"At Meningitis UK we are fighting back against this disease which can kill in less than four hours and our main aim is to find a preventative vaccine to stamp out all forms of meningitis and associated diseases."
