Couples' Halloween charity night raises £6,000

10.11.10

TWO Bristol couples raised more than £6,000 between them for charities close to their hearts.

Duncan and Heather Wilmot and James and Jess Heslop, who all live in Headley Park, held a Halloween charity event at the Ramada Bristol City Hotel to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Meningitis UK.

The two couples organised the event to raise awareness and much needed funds for the two charities that have helped them and their families through a difficult year.

Duncan's father Carl Wilmot sadly died in June after an 18-month battle with bowel cancer and Heather's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, although she is now in remission.

Jess and James wanted to raise money for Meningitis UK as their son Jude contracted the Group B Streptococcus infection eight days after birth.

The infection caused Jude to contract septicaemia and meningitis, but despite a devastating initial prognosis he is recovering well.

The night included best-dressed awards, an auction, a raffle, a live band and a disco. Altogether £6,040 was raised from the night.

"It was a great success – all of our friends, families and work colleagues made a great effort dressing up and bidding for prizes," said Heather.

"We would like to thank everyone who came and took part."
