Family marks baby's birthday by helping charity fund meningitis vaccine

AN Eddie Stobart truck has been named in memory of a little girl who would have been two today.

Eleanor May Oldham died from meningitis when she was only eight-months-old.

Her family asked Eddie Stobart to name a truck in her memory and they discovered their dream had come true when they visited their local newspaper's website and saw a reporter driving the brand new vehicle they had christened.

Eleanor's dad, Marcus, of Elland, West Yorkshire, said: "I googled Eddie Stobart and Eleanor May and it fetched up the website.

"We are so pleased. Eleanor was amazing, a really strong little girl. She was always giggling and happy. She was a little marvel."

Eleanor developed a temperature in March last year and Marcus and his wife, Vickie, took her to hospital. She was kept in overnight and sent home but became ill again.

Tests revealed she had bacterial meningitis and she died two days later.

Marcus said: "They tried to save her. Now we want to raise awareness about meningitis and raise as much money as we can for research into a vaccine."

Eleanor's nan, Sheila Suthern, is making candles for the forever fund in her memory, raising funds for Meningitis UK.

Sheila said: "She was a beautiful baby. I'd seen wagons going up and down with girl's names, I though it would be lovely to have one with her name.

"She is never going to be able to travel the world, but on an Eddie Stobart truck, she can go all over Britain."
