FOUR walkers are taking on the ultimate trekking challenge in memory of a teenager from Bristol who lost his battle with meningitis last year.
Ryan Bresnahan from Leigh Woods sadly died aged 16 in March 2010. He was a GCSE student at Clifton College.
United in their goal of raising funds for Meningitis UK, the trekkers will be stomping up the three highest peaks in the home nations in 24 hours next weekend (August 5 to 7).
Walking will be Jeanne Friars, 47, a teacher at Clevedon Community School from Langford with her 47-year-old husband Richard, a surveyor.
They will be joined by Jill Fitzgerald, 45, an accountant from Bristol, and 54-year-old Paul Gardner from Somerset - director of Waste Matters Ltd.
The four friends will be starting with Ben Nevis in Scotland, before heading to Scafell Pike in England and finishing triumphantly on the top of Mount Snowdon in Wales.
Ryan's father John, said: "We have known Richard and Jan for many years and they will know the value of what they are doing in terms of just how much Ryan meant to us and how his memory lives with us all. It is a real challenge and we are delighted they are doing it with good friends and able to share such a great experience in Ryan's honour.
"We hope they have a fantastic time. Our own thoughts and best wishes along with Ryan's are with them all as they negotiate the rise and fall of every peak and we are looking forward to catching up on their safe return home and sharing a celebratory drink or two."
Meningitis UK fundraiser, Toya Champ from Downend, Bristol, has organised the challenge and will be joining the 12 walkers from across the UK.
She said: "This isn't a challenge for the faint-hearted as we will be climbing a total of 3,000 vertical metres and travelling 480 miles between the three peaks. But, this is an exciting and adrenaline-fuelled adventure these walkers will never forget.
"We are a group of like-minded adventurers, all keen to get the best out of this weekend and raise vital funds for Meningitis UK's Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign and I am looking forward to us all coming down from Snowdon on Sunday morning buzzing."
