Meningitis UK comment on death of Manchester baby

Mum Jamie-Lee Ball from Radcliffe, Manchester, says she took her son five-month-old Jayden-James to the clinic in Manchester with a high temperature, cold hands and feet and a purple rash on his neck. He died hours after being sent home.

Meningitis UK chief executive, Steve Dayman, who lost his son Spencer to meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia, said: "Everyone here at Meningitis UK was so sorry to hear about Jayden-James and would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to his family.

"Meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia are notoriously difficult to diagnose and can kill in hours. It is so important for health professionals to make sure they are aware of the signs of the disease and the clinical guidelines.

"We are fighting back against meningitis and associated diseases and we hope it will give people some confort to know that our researchers are working hard to develop preventative vaccines to save lives."

Steve is available to provide support at anytime on 07946 631 830. If anyone needs any further information at all, please do feel free to contact us on 0117 947 6320 or www.meningitisuk.org
