Meningitis UK’s Founder, Steve Dayman MBE, accepts new challenge
06.01.12
Meningitis UK’s Founder Steve Dayman MBE has been appointed Founder Director of the charity to enable him to focus more fully on expanding and strengthening the charity’s presence throughout the UK. Meningitis UK was established by Steve in 1999 and since then, through his leadership and energy, the organisation has grown to become a successful national charity playing a leading role in funding major research projects in the UK to find a vaccine against all forms of meningitis.
“2011 was an important year for me”, said Steve. “I decided to hang up my walking shoes on completion of my last marathon walk in October. In thinking about the future, and in consultation with the trustees, I decided it was time to hand over the reins for the day-to-day management of Meningitis UK so that I can concentrate on spreading the message up and down the country about the importance of finding a vaccine, and with raising funds to make that happen. These are exciting times with the recent progress that has been made in the search for a vaccine and I am sure it is the right time to push ahead to achieve this”.
Richard Gillett, Chairman of the Board of Trustees said “We are delighted that Steve has accepted this important challenge. In his new role he will have more time to work at increasing support for the cause as he travels the country raising awareness of this terrible disease and the need to eradicate it. Steve’s contribution in the fight against meningitis is legendary and we are very grateful for his dedication and commitment over the past 30 years”.
Meningitis UK will be making arrangements to find a new Chief Executive in the coming months to fill the role that Steve is vacating and in the short term Kate Rowland, currently Head of Development will act as Chief Executive.
