Signed memorabilia up for grabs at Summer Party
26.07.10
A SUMMER party with sought-after sporting memorabilia looks set to whip up an auctioning storm in Bristol.
A whole host of signed gems are up for grabs at Meningitis UK's shindig at the Tobacco Factory on August 12.
In addition to the auction there will also be a raffle and live music courtesy of Bristol band Audit Trail.
The most desired lot is a limited edition Record Pursuit print signed by the best wicket takers in the world of cricket - Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan.
It's especially topical as Muralitharan has just taken his 800th wicket with the final ball of his final innings for Sri Lanka.
Other items up for grabs include a postcard signed by tennis star Roger Federer, a Match of the Day script signed by footballer Gary Lineker, a photo signed by Fernando Torres, a bat signed by Somerset Cricket Club and a rugby ball signed by Bristol Rugby Club.
Film Director Ken Loach has also signed a copy of the Looking For Eric script, a film he directed about Eric Cantona last year.
There are over 20 raffle prizes on offer too, including hotel stays, theatre tickets, books signed by Noel Edmonds and Carol Vorderman, plus a free portrait sitting at Jack Willingham Photography worth £45.
The prizes have been secured by Paul Hobbs, who is hoping to raise valuable funds for Bristol-based Meningitis UK which he's supported for the last five years.
He said: "After the success of the Summer Stroll walk in June, I'm hoping the Summer Party will raise over £1,500.
"We've worked hard to get such a long list of prizes. They're such sought-after lots that I would encourage people to make bids in advance if they can't make the night itself.
"It promises to be a fun evening which will also act as a thank you to everyone who took part in the Summer Stroll last month and helped us to raise £20,000."
The Summer Party starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are free but capacity is limited to 150 so they will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.
