Standing ovation for Steve

04.03.10

MENINGITIS UK Chief Executive Steve Dayman has opened a global conference for pharmaceutical company Novartis.

Around 120 staff from Novartis greeted Steve with a standing ovation after he recounted how he's dedicated his life to finding a vaccine for the deadly disease which took his son Spencer's life in 1982.

The conference was for Novartis' marketing, commercial, medical and policy associates, with the theme of Inspiring Marketing and Market Access.

Steve described the profound impact meningitis can have on a person's life and how such an experience changes one's understanding of public health.

He highlighted how the introduction of vaccines in the past 20 years has helped to improve public health.

But the biggest challenge still remains - finding a vaccine for meningococcal disease.
