‘Medicine Woman’ Jane Seymour joins Meningitis UK’s Search 4 a Vaccine
Meningitis UK is proud to announce that Hollywood actress, star of ‘Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman' and mother of six, Jane Seymour and her husband American actor, producer and director, James Keach, have recently become patrons of Meningitis UK.
They said "The stories about families who have lost a loved one to meningitis, or who live with someone who has suffered the devastating consequences of the disease, are so moving. As parents, we can imagine only too clearly what agony this must be. If by supporting Meningitis UK, we can help to eradicate the disease and put an end to the devastation it causes, we feel it is wholly worthwhile."
Jane and James' support has come at an important time for the charity, which launched its ‘Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign' in April this year. Tragically meningitis can kill in under 4 hours and this campaign aims to raise £7 million in seven years to help fund vital research to find a vaccine to eradicate meningococcal Group B, the most common form of meningitis in the UK, for which there is still no vaccine. The campaign will also raise awareness of the common symptoms and need to act quickly, which until a vaccine is found, can mean the difference between life and death.
Steve Dayman, Chief Executive of Meningitis UK said ‘It is fantastic that both Jane and James are now patrons of Meningitis UK. Their support really means a lot to us and we hope it will help highlight the importance of finding this vaccine to eradicate meningitis. We are confident that with enough support and persistent research, new vaccines can be developed."
