Bristolians urged to get on their bikes
Bristolians who want to help raise funds for charity can now peddle for pounds during Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride.
The popular event, now in its 15th year, tales place on traffic free routes around the city and surrounding countryside on Sunday, June 22 and now Bristol-based charity Meningitis UK is urging people to sign up.
Emily Knight, Meningitis UK's Community Fundraising Officer, said: "Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride is a huge success every year so we would like as many people as possible to help raise money for Meningitis UK while getting fit and having a great day out.
"The Business Challenge encourages companies to get a team together to help peddle for pounds. Otherwise you could ride on your own, or with your family.
"Meningitis is a devastating disease which causes so much pain and suffering. Every bit of help is so important in enabling us to continue our vital work and will take us one step closer to finding a vaccine and saving lives."
Last year Meningitis UK launched its Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign, which aims to raise £7million over the next seven years to help fund research into developing a vaccine against Meningitis B. This causes both meningitis and septicaemia and accounts for almost 90 per cent of all cases.
Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride features a choice of five routes, ranging from nine to 38 miles. All start at Millennium Square and end at Greville Smyth Park. Start times vary depending on the ride.
Everyone who takes part will receive a free commemorative T-shirt, an information pack including handy tips on how to prepare and raise money, sponsorship forms and support from Meningitis UK's fundraising team.
