Research strategy
In 2005, the Trustees reviewed Meningitis UK's Research Strategy and agreed to focus solely on the development of vaccines to protect against all forms of meningitis.
Research grant awards
The new Grant Round has now been announced. Applications are invited for grant aid from established research groups in the UK with a track record in vaccine development. The aim of these awards is to support vaccine-related projects with the ultimate aim of eradicating all forms of meningitis and associated diseases.
Funding for grants up to £150,000 will be available and smaller grants will be considered. All applications are to be submitted by Monday 21st December 2009. NIHR Partnership Status
Meningitis UK has been awarded the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Partnership Status. As a funder that has been awarded NIHR partnership status, research teams we fund will be eligible for NHS support costs.

Association of Medical Research Charities'
Certificate of Best Practice
In 2006, Meningitis UK was awarded a ‘Certificate of Best Practice' by the Association of Medical Research Charities' Medical and Health Research Peer Review reflecting our achievements in establishing a stringent and transparent review process. Meningitis UK's Scientific Medical Advisory Panel (SMAP) and independent referees evaluate all grant award applications and make the appropriate recommendations for funding to the board of Trustees based on scientific merit.
